FAQ
Short answers for a local-first GOTV analyzer and playbook. Drop a demo on the home page, open Analyzer for saved notes, or start a Playbook.
What is CS2 Analyzer?
CS2 Analyzer is a web application that can be used for free, by everyone. It serves multiple purposes, that can be utilized by players, coaches and analytics, such as:
- Single GOTV Demo Analyzer, in which you can:
- Watch the 2D replay with live HUD, killfeed and scoreboard, including own Rating System.
- Review each player's game: won/lost opening duels, trade kills, deaths with unused nades, etc.
- Check the game summary: executes, pushes, retakes, fights.
- List the utility from the whole game: who, what nade, where thrown and what effects it had (flashed enemies and teammates, dealt damage).
- Make notes for each round (drawings, arrows, textboxes and bookmarks) and export them to PDF, either in native, dark mode, or white mode dedicated for printing.
- Multi-demo analyzer, in which you can:
- Watch "aggregated" rounds, which show team or player habits: paths they usually take (including ratio-based frequencies), grenades they throw and how often, what they do mid-rounds (executes, fights, pushes). You can select these based on T/CT side and economy (pistol, eco, force, full).
- Wiew multiple demos at once, switching between them easily through tabs - looking at the particular round, you may use all functionalities of the "single demo" Analyzer.
- Playbook, used to collect your own analyses and strats:
- Create multiple strat-books per map - there is no limit!
- Export snapshots from single/multi-demo Analyzer that you can use later as a summary of already analyzed, "saved for later" rounds or matches.
- Prepare your own strats using multiple kinds of tools: pawns for CT/T, grenade markers (icon/effect), YouTube/imgur link attachment, drawing tools and a textbox.
- Export PDFs from playbooks - all information you need in one place, ready to be printed or shared.
How safe is it?
This application lives only in your browser, which has its own advantages and disadvantages.
The best thing is that your data is as safe as you are - since nothing is uploaded to any external servers, your analyses and playbooks stay on your computer. You can share your stuff with friends or teammates by exporting & importing data explicitly, and nobody can access the data unless you share your JSONs with them.
Safety comes at a price though. You need to take care about your notes - backup your data frequently, since if your PC dies, your notes die too. At least, noone can break into your account and steal your stuff, right?
Why is it free?
The cost of the development is just my free time (and some money for AI that helped me a lot). The domain isn't that pricey too. As there is no online database and the whole "demo loading" process works directly on your computer, the maintenance is about $50 yearly.
How do saved analyses and playbooks work?
Drawings auto-save in this browser. The demo itself is not stored, so Open asks you to drop the same .dem (or a linked file) to restore them. Export a JSON backup from Settings so a cache wipe does not eat them.
GOTV or POV? What is the difference?
GOTV is the only supported demo type. GOTV demos are the server-native demos that record the whole gameplay - they are widely used on FACEIT, HLTV demos, and even Premier games.
POV demos, i.e. demos recorded by players with record <demo_name> are not supported. Valve handles them a bit different, so POV-based demo can be troublesome.
Which browsers work?
I have access to Windows and Linux PCs, so I tested the most popular browsers by hand and I can say that all Chrome, Edge, Opera (and probably other Chromium-based browsers), Firefox work well. I am not sure about Safari, but I guess it should work.
If you want to use all features of the website, such as caching demo paths from your PC, then I would suggest using one of Chromium-based browsers: Chrome, Edge or Opera.
What does pre-release mean?
The live site is still in testing. Parser and notes formats can change, i.e. saved notes in this browser might stop loading after a newer version. Once the core of the website is stable, the badge will be taken down, and all notes & playbooks will be backwards-compatible.
How do I report a bug or request a feature?
Open an issue on GitHub Issues or contact me by any means listed on Contact page. Please include as many details as possible.
- In case of a bug report, please provide what you were doing, what happened and what you expected to happen. Providing your OS name and browser will be really helpful.
- In case of a feature request, tell what you'd like to see next. I will try to do my best to add whatever users need, but keep in mind that there are some limitations and obstacles I cannot avoid.
